Aileen Burr gave us a detailed account of her 10 days holiday in Canada earlier this year. She and a friend flew from Gatwick to Toronto and were met by friends who they stayed with for 4 days. Travelling by Metro they decided it was "inferior" to our underground and they visited the C N Tower, the lovely old town Niagara where London Cabs could be hired and also horses and carriages, and of course The Falls. These were a big attraction, with the American Falls on the left and the Canadian on the right, the latter being the largest. Black Squirrels and Chipmunks could be seen in the local Parks. In Ottawa the two cathedrals were viewed in China Town and they were impressed by the cleanliness of the Bus and Railway stations. On returning to Montreal they did a tour of the Library followed by coach to Toronto where they took their 6 hr flight to Gatwick.. It was a wonderful experience and she will no doubt go again.
Pam Chudley gave us a talk on her trip to the Bahamas. She spent 6 months with a daughter who is residing there. It is a small Island (4 miles by 2 miles) with just 35 houses and provisions delivered once a week by sea. People were very friendly and meeting places tended to be the Grocery Stores or the Bank. The beaches were particularly beautiful and clean, with lovely pretty shells of all shapes and sizes which she passed around for us all to feel. Both talks were most interesting and it is lovely to hear of the wonderful buildings etc and the every day lives of folk in other Countries.
