Everyone was glad to be back after the Christmas break and the snow and ice which disrupted so many things but we were much better off than a lot of folk and so we must not be selfish.
We had not bargained for Betty standing down as Chairman, but we reluctantly respected her wishes. Betty took over from Nell Chillingford almost 2 years ago has carried out her duties with much encouragement and enthusiasm. Although she has not always enjoyed good health she continued to cause much hilarity with her jokes! She assures us that she will attend as often as she can and we welcome that. A big "thank you" Bet from us all.
As I was one of the founder members of the Club, which is now into its 18th year, and always having the Club and its members at heart I decided that with the vice Chairman Peter Barber, Secretary Dorothy Hanson and Treasurer Aleen Dixon I would take over the Chair. I have done nothing like this before. I hope members will continue to present their ideas and their involvement as it is their Club. I can see no reason why we should not enjoy our weekly meetings and most of all retain good friendship.
Dolly and I celebrated our Birthdays together with Sponge Cake Pizza with Sherry and yes there had to be booze!
We have achieved something different already as we celebrated our Christmas Lunch in February! Owing to the winter snow and ice the date in January had to be cancelled but I am pleased to report that the proprietors of the Baskerville Arms Clyro with their staff served us with a most delicious traditional Turkey and Christmas pudding Lunch.
A Christmas tree with its pretty lights graced a window as did the crackers on the nicely laid tables. A garden voucher and a signed card was presented to Betty on her retirement by Peter. John Rees then played numerous tunes on his electric organ and having enjoyed a "sing a long" we all got on the floor and thoroughly enjoyed some dancing! Peter and I thanked Sheila Layton for arranging everything for us also John and the Staff for a great afternoon.
