HI "WAY-ON-HIGH" - LLANIGON LOVES YOU!!!
Congratulations to Way on High on your 100th birthday from all of us in Llanigon. Apart from continued reporting on our restoration project, we especially remember the Palm Sunday procession, complete with Evelyn Bally's much-loved donkey (no stranger to church duties), which Father Richard arranged soon after he arrived here. We set off from the school with our palms and walked up the hill to St. Eigon's and while we were inside, the donkey did some good churchyard mowing.
The magnificent service of Rededication following the restoration of our church, with the Bishop in attendance, was something none of us will forget. The Requiem Mass for John Ewins was a beautiful reminder of all the wonderful time and care he had given to St. Eigon's.
Way on High has always advertised and supported St. Eigon's concerts, music, choir singing, John Watkins' wonderful guitar playing, and our hugely popular Harvest and Carol services.
Some of Llanigon's copies of Way on High go 'Way-Beyond' our parish!! - Hereford, Coventry, London, and even America. Everyone loves the varied content, the information old and new, and sorry - some of us do have to read the Last Laughs first...
THANK YOU to everyone involved in its creation, and specially to Editor Bryn, whose patience with our 'occasional' lateness is much appreciated!
We all look forward to the next 100 copies.
Shan Egerton and Jan Watkins
What’s in a Name?
100 issues of ‘Way on High’ and it doesn’t seem an issue too much!
I remember we were asked to suggest a new title for our parish magazine and I was trying to think of something suitable.
One evening I was invited to a friend’s house and the other guests were all unknown to me. They were a lively crowd of people and the after-dinner entertainment consisted of music-hall songs and jokes. I mentioned that we were looking for a new title for our magazine and one lady said she couldn’t understand why someone had not chosen ‘Way on High’ for something in Hay. I thought – that’s it! A play on words with a hint of heavenly things.
When I suggested the title to Father Richard my son said he had a contribution also - Way Too High!! Our Parish Priest laughed! What a blessing a sense of humour is, particularly if you can laugh at yourself.
And here’s to the next 100 issues of ‘Way on High’!
