News from St Eigon's
At last a letter from St. Eigon's and I'll make sure there are no misses in 2012!
For our annual Candlelit Carol Service the church was as usual full to bursting and it was heart warming to see so many coming from the dark, cold churchyard into the wonderful warmth of the church lit by hundreds of candles and festooned with holly, ivy and this year small red crab apples from my garden as the birds had had all the holly berries. Pat as usual did wonders with the pulpit flowers, the little crib glowed, the Tree, decorated by John and Jan, Anna and little Rosanna, twinkled. It all looked magical. Around a hundred of us sang our hearts out, John played an Argentinean lullaby, Father Richard conducted the Service and played two beautiful pieces on the organ, Ruth read the Donkey's Offering by the late Miss Mary Moore who regularly attended St. Mary's Church Hay, and Ruth, Jan, Eileen and Julia sang a 16 century Spanish lullaby. Anna, Avril, Anne, Chris, David and I all enjoyed reading our lessons. The Grand Draw, Paul's delicious mince pies (his are simply the best) and Jan's warming mulled wine ended a very happy evening on a very festive note and made a magnificent £830 for our much needed funds. It is hard for our small congregation to keep up with the quota and the upkeep of the church without these big events so thank you to everyone for supporting St. Eigon's that evening.
Cliff Bradley was much loved and very popular in Llanigon and the gathering in the church to celebrate his full and happy life with Val was as joyous as such a sad farewell could be. Music played, wonderful words were said and the love and support for Val and all the family was all around in the packed church which he loved. I'm sure the slow worms were listening too. His Land Rover wreath is still going strong in the Memory Garden as are the fine memories of Cliff.
Lily Price's funeral a week later said goodbye to Llanigon's oldest inhabitant and what a send off. Her body was carried from Tynllyne in a hearse drawn by two splendid black horses, their heads topped with black plumes, harness shining. We all had tears in our eyes as we watched them arrive and leave with Lily. May she and Cliff now rest in peace.
Jan and I and all the PCC wish everyone a very happy and peaceful New Year.
