The Tuesday Club
Seventeen members met at The Old Stables, Bear Street, Hay, on Tuesday 22nd June 2010, for their annual Midsummer Strawberry and Pink Champagne Breakfast. It was a very happy gathering and most enjoyable. Afterwards, Mike and Rachel from The Old Stables were warmly thanked for their hospitality, as was Thelma Ballance-Phillips for making the arrangements.

A Stroll through Hay Cemetery
On Tuesday 2nd July 2010, ten members of The Tuesday Club met at the entrance to Hay Cemetery at 7pm for a short conducted tour of the cemetery by June Pugh, who enhanced the walk with a few interesting snippets of history.
Burials at the parish church and chapels ceased in 1870 with the opening of the new cemetery under the management of the Burial Board. Particular attention was given to: the Lych Gate, erected in 1939 in memory of Archdeacon William Latham Bevan, vicar of Hay for 56 years, and given by his daughters Frances and Ellen; the sundial; fourteen graves of German and Italian POW’s from the Second World War who probably died as a result of “shell-shock”; some fine old headstones; and the wonderful sculpture erected on the grave of Lancelot Steele-Dixon, aged 24 years, who crashed his plane at Winforton in 1940. This was sculpted by his mother, Christine Sabatini, who based the work on the Flight of Icarus (see Way on High November 2004).
At the end of the walk, everyone was invited to the home of Thelma Ballance-Phillips to enjoy a fine spread of tea, sandwiches and cakes.
